A Study of History Abridgment of Volume 1 to 6

Professor Toynbee’s Study of History dates back to 1934-when the first three volumes were published, to be followed five years later by volumes IV-VI and in 1954 by the remaining four volumes. It was at once recognized as being one of those great works which, like Frazer’s Golden Bough, stir the human imagination and extend their influence over more than one generation. Mr. Somervell’s abridgement of these six volume has carried the work to readers in every corner of the civilized world.
