Beatrice and Virgil a Novel

Beatrice and Virgil (2010, Knopf Canada) by Yann Martel—author of Life of Pi—is a haunting allegorical novel that explores the Holocaust through an unusual lens. The story follows Henry, a novelist, who encounters a taxidermist and his manuscript featuring Beatrice the donkey and Virgil the monkey. As Henry delves deeper, the narrative blurs fiction and trauma, challenging how history is remembered. A provocative meditation on suffering and representation. Available at Best Book Centre.
