Anne of Green Gables

When Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert send to an orphanage for a boy to help them at Green Gables, their farm in Canada, they are astonished when a talkative little girl steps off the train. Anne, red-headed, pugnacious and ancurably romantic, cause chose at Green Gables and in the village. But her wit and good nature make her a firm favourite not only in the fictional community on Prince Edward Island but also with Generation of readers on either side of the Atlantic.
