Power Play

Here is the shocking story of the maneuverings, intrigues, manipulations, and back-stabbings that have gone on behind the scenes of the Middle East oil industry. Beginning with the great Baku oil rush of the 1870s, Power Play is also an indispensable report on the background of today’s energy crisis. It is firmly based on political and economic statistics. but these take second place to an extraordinary cast of characters: daring pioneers, devious rogues, avaricious sheiks gamblers willing to risk billions, visionary entrepreneurs, and rapacious governments – all in pursuit of the fabulous wealth that oil can bring. In the course of his investigations Leonard Mosley visited every Middle East oil state and met rulers, workers, and tycoons.
