The Cats Table a Novel

The Cat’s Table by Michael Ondaatje is a coming-of-age novel that follows an eleven-year-old boy’s voyage from Colombo to England aboard a ship in the 1950s. Seated at the “cat’s table,” the least prestigious spot in the dining room, he encounters a cast of eccentric characters whose stories and secrets shape his journey. Blending memory, imagination, and narrative artistry, Ondaatje explores themes of childhood, discovery, and the blurred lines between innocence and experience.
