This book, by the Professor of British Commonwealth Relations in the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is based on his three Reid lectures delivered at the Acadia University, Nova Scotia. It gives a spirited reply to certain views of British policy that are often current in the United States, and expresses a reasoned confidence in the future of Central Africa. The book is divided into three sections: Empire to Commonwealth, The New Partition of Africa, and The Last Phase.
