Book Description

Noam Chomsky has become world famous in recent years in two very different role .he has revolutionized our understanding of the meaning of language while his writing on political questions have made him one of the most influential spokesmen of the left body .

In January 1971 .at the invitation oe trinity college Cambridge. Professor Chomsky gave both the Bertrand  Russell  memorial lectures which are reproduced in this book .the lectures  reflect his  concern with some of the problems that  Russell investigated and the causes to which he devoted  himself .the first  discusses how through  the study  of language , Russell ,s thinking  can be taken further .the second develops Russell’s  ideas on freedom  and human nature  and on social and political issues  into an outline of Chomsky s own views on these matters

The whole is a masterly work of synthesis and introduction presenting for the first time to the broadest possible public a crucial statement of Chomsky’s position in both the scholarship and politics of the modern world.
