The series: ‘outlines of modern librarianship’ was conceived as the result of intensive solicitation of the views of library school lectures about present needs in professional literature for student librarians

The ‘Outlines’ are intended for use primarily as introductions to specific subjects of study in support of academic courses, but their constructions does permit them to be used independently of formal class teaching as guides to the key points within each subject. The books in the series represent overviews, not in-depth treatment , and will be extremely valuable to student librarians at the outset of their studies and as revision aids.
