Aimee and Jaguar: A Love Story, Berlin 1943 by Erica Fischer (original German edition 1994; English translation Bloomsbury, 1996; later reprints including HarperCollins 2015) recounts the true story of Lilly Wust, a German housewife, and Felice Schragenheim, a Jewish woman living under false identity in wartime Berlin. Despite the dangers of Nazi persecution, the two women fell deeply in love, exchanging letters, poems, and even a symbolic marriage contract. Their relationship lasted sixteen months before Felice was arrested by the Gestapo and deported to concentration camps, where she perished.
