Several scholarly works are available on the administration of the Mughal empire in North India but none on that of the Deccan. This book presents a study of the administration of the Mughal suba of the Deccan and thus fills a lacuna.
In the process of restoring Mughal authority in the Deccan in the chaotic conditions following Aurangzeb's death. Nizamul Mulk almost recreated the administration and gave it a new dimension. It is this modified Mughal administration of the Deccan which has been studied in this work.
This is the first study on this subject based entirely on original Persian documents and sigils of the Mughal government which have been preserved at the State Archives, Hyderabad and Inayat Jung Collection at the National Archives of India. New Delhi, Persian manuscript preserved in various institutions in Hyderabad have also been used and these have been substantiated by information from a few secondary sources.
The book starts with a discussion of the controversial topics of the status of Nizamul Mulk in the Mughal Empire and the date on which he established his supremacy in the Deccan
